Our lab is working to provide a framework for bilingualism’s effect on the trajectory of healthy aging and neurodegenerative disease, while accounting for the complexity underlying language experiences, executive functioning, and dementia types. We study these topics using cognitive data, questionnaires, multi-modal imaging techniques, and Alzheimer’s disease biomarkers. Our goal is to improve care for people with diverse language backgrounds and give important insight into whether speaking more than one language can help prevent or slow the symptoms of neurodegenerative disease.
